I was very surprised to hear about Native American remains on the Harpeth Hall campus. Before class, while reading the slideshow I believed that this was a made-up class activity. Reading the emails in class and hearing the names of Harpeth Hall officials that I know was shocking. It felt a bit unnerving and sick when I heard of the reburial behind the library. I walk across the grassy area all the time and in middle school, I would stand there during carpool. The history shows that there was Native American officials allowing the reburial but to me, it felt wrong. I feel like we disturbed a burial ground that should be left alone. I also have many questions between the 1987 and 1992 bones and the confusion on main officials in the investigation. Hopefully, all of my questions can be answered soon.
After finding out about who inhabited this land before Harpeth Hall came to be I found myself really intrigued by the idea of each tribe's differing cultures and rituals.
I also found myself feeling somewhat uneasy and guilty that we don't, in any way, honor the people who were/are buried here. I would really like to do research oriented around funerary rituals in attempts to piece together how Harpeth Hall could honor these Native Americans without being disrespectful. Overall, I think this project is really exciting and I can't wait to get in contact with more people and start piecing this story together even more!

I enjoyed learning about the Native American remains found on the HH campus and investigating how they were handled. I think that the uncertainty as to where the 1987 bones were relocated to is strange, and I would like to research more about it! Because I never knew why the sidewalk to the fishbowl room is so oddly shaped, I wish that HH would put a sign or recognize the graves in some way. I think that sharing this information with the community would be beneficial because it provides a closer look at the history of HH and America!
It was surprising to find out that there were Native American remains were discovered at Harpeth Hall. It is interesting to find out what the school knows and what was shared with the public. It is fascinating to see how secretive all of it was. I hope that we are able to uncover some things that we do not know yet. It was interesting that they know where the 1992 bones are but not the 1987 ones. I hope we can find out where they are. I hope that we are able to answer many questions that we have now. Perhaps we will be able to figure out the truth in regards to several contradicting stories.
I was very surprised to learn that Native American remains were found on the Harpeth Hall campus. I questioned whether or not it was real until I got to class only to find out that it is true. I find it weird yet very fascinating and am eager to learn more. We learned that remains were found in 1987 and 1992. We are not certain where the remains found in 1987 are currently located. The reports and emails we have read all say they are different places. I am excited to see what information we are able to uncover throughout the year and can't wait to keep exploring!
Throughout the past couple of days, I have become fascinated with the idea that Native American remains were found on Harpeth Hall's campus. Even though the discoveries weren't intentional, I still find it interesting that Harpeth Hall has kept this a secret for many years. Learning this new information makes me rethink walking routes across campus; I do not want to walk on the grass by the library now. I will try to stick to sidewalks on only! If our class discovers where the missing bones resign, then I believe we should educate the community of our findings. With this being said, I still have some questions. Who all knows about these findings on the Harpeth Hall campus? Does Mrs. Hill know; what are her thoughts? How can we show our remembrance of the Indian remains on campus?
Native American Remains
I have been at Harpeth Hall for the past 6 years, and now that I think about it, I definitely remember someone telling me they heard a rumor there were Native American bones found under our track. Knowing me, I didn't dwell on it for long, and probably thought they were messing with me. Now that I have seen written and visual proof, I am very intrigued. I thought it was interesting how everyone had a different story about the history and location of the bones. Also, I'm excited to see if we can find enough missing pieces to tell us the where the 1987 bones are today.
Response to Know Your Place
I was very intrigued to find out that there were Native American remains found on the Harpeth Hall campus in the late years of the 1900s. It is interesting to look back at these documents and images to find out that no one (as of now) knows the clear story. Everything seems very vague- as if there is no clear answer. At this point, I have many questions like: Why do we not have clear answers to what happened with these remains? Why don't the pieces fit together? I believe that it is important to find out the true story to what really happened to these Native American remains and I really hope our class can work to solve this ongoing mystery.
First Reflection
I was very shocked to discover that Native American remains were found on campus. The idea of how secretive this discovery was and still is, makes me want to know more because I have so many questions. Does Harpeth Hall not want us to know? I feel bad that I have been walking on bodies unknowingly. This makes me sad because I feel like I am being disrespectful. I wish this would have been a known thing, but I understand not wanting to bring bad publicity on campus. Also, the lack of communication between the members at Harpeth Hall makes me even more curious! The heads of school had different stories, which may be a reason the 87' bones are missing. This was a long time ago, but I think that this project will give the class beneficial insight into who was here before us.

Today, we learned about the found, and now missing, Native American remains on campus. We have gone through most of the "Cold Case" file and have answered some of our questions. We learned that there were two times remains were found, once in 1987 and once in 1992. We know where the 1992 remains are now, they were relocated behind the library, but there was miscommunication and we are uncertain of where the 1987 remains are. We are also unsure of what kind of Natives were found. People have speculated that they are either Mississippian or Cherokee. I am curious about where the remains from 1987 are and what tribe they come from. I wonder why the first find was so publicized, yet why the second was so secretive. Why can't we have a plaque indicating where they are buried behind the library? Though we have found some answers and context, I still have many questions.
Today, we learned about the discovery of Native American remains on the Harpeth Hall campus in 1987 and 1992. Everything we talked about was so interesting. I thought it was really confusing and suspicious how it seemed like everyone had a different story. That just made everything so much more interesting to me. I also thought it was really interesting how not many people knew about what happened, even Mrs. Teaff and Mr. Wood. Considering they are heads of school, I would think that they would at least be involved, even if it was at a small level. I am still curious about where exactly the 1987 bones are and if there's any documentation that we are missing.
We have learned about the two different findings and the treatment of the '92 ones. We haven't found out what happened to the '87 ones. I am not surprised that the location of the '87 ones are unknown, because many things get lost if multiple people/groups are involved. It sounds like there was a lot of miscommunication between members of the Harpeth Hall team. I wonder what actually happened to the '87 bones, and why it was not better documented/kept track of.
